Real Life Stories
Yazmine had always been known as a shy child, but that has changed thanks to her Big Sister Olivia.
In only seven months, Yazmine, 12, has grown into a talkative young girl with a bright future. Her Big Sister remembers the day she noticed the change. The two were volunteering at a Big Brothers Big Sisters event at the Dallas Zoo. They were in charge of greeting other matches as they arrived and directing them where to go. At first, Yazmine wasn’t comfortable enough to talk to people. Big Sister Olivia suggested they take turns welcoming the Bigs and Littles. By the end of the day, Yazmine was comfortable enough to approach people on her own!
Yazmine and Olivia hang out regularly and Olivia encourages new activities that will get Yazmine out of her comfort zone. They enjoy baking, swimming and jogging. In addition to Big Brothers Big Sisters event, the two have volunteered at an animal rescue organization.
