Our Programs

So many ways to get started

Children with a parent currently or previously in the military face unique challenges that may include separation and loss in addition to the stresses of military life.

Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring can provide an added layer of support to children of military families who may face extraordinary challenges and stresses because of multiple relocations, parent deployment, or other realities of military life.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Military Mentoring Program supports children ages 6-18 (Matching children ages 6-16) of active duty, wounded, or fallen military members, as well as children of veterans, National Guard or Reserve components. Our Military Mentoring Program also consists of active duty, reservist, veteran, and retired military service members serving as mentors.

The funds for this program are provided by private and government entities.

Our program works because it:
  - reinforces the child’s connection with the parent and community
  - respects and acknowledges military values, which serves as a platform for the child’s emotional, mental, and physical development
  - supports educational achievement

Feedback from those involved in our Military Mentoring Program:

“During my husband's first deployment, our eldest daughter had horrible anxiety so we tried Big Brothers Big Sisters and with her Big Sister's help, her anxiety is so much better. Now she has a lifelong Big Sister. We couldn't be more pleased. BBBS also has many opportunities for the Bigs and Littles to get involved in our community and have fun!”

“My daughter’s match has a dependable and genuine friendship, and her Big has been a positive influence on her. They have fun together but also focus on education and success.”

“My son is an only child so I appreciate him having the opportunity to get out and interact with others. My son said he feels comfortable going to his Big Sister to talk or seek advice if needed.”

“I love my son’s match! His Big Brother provides a balance for him. The Big Brother is a father of 3 sons so he’s able to talk and relate to my son. My son respects his Big and always looks forward to outings.”

“I feel that my son’s Big Brothers has been a great help and a good role model, especially since my son’s father is not around. His Big has great insight and helps my son to have a positive outlook on his future.”

“My relationship with my Big Brother is great! He’s cool and fun to hang out with.”

“I love BBBS! I love having my daughter having someone else besides me to talk to and spend time with- it’s really helpful. Thank God for her Big Sister!”
