• Jordan Free began working at Big Brothers Big Sisters in July of 2011, and became a Big shortly thereafter. As a Public Relations VISTA, he knew that he would be working with matches quite frequently and wanted to experience the program as a mentor, not just an employee.

• Historically Black Fraternities Introduce Mentoring Brothers in Action
• Big Brothers Big Sisters and its African American fraternity partners are marking National Mentoring Month and the January 16 Martin Luther King Day of Service with the launch of Mentoring Brothers in Action, Phase II of their two-year collaborative partnership. The goal of the program, which will include support from popular nationally syndicated urban radio host Michael Baisden, is to engage more African American men in fraternal, social, faith-based and professional organizations to get involved in one-to-one mentoring to change the odds for African American boys.

• Military Big serves Abilene youth

• Military Big Rob Gantz has been active duty in the United States Air Force for five years and has been stationed in Abilene for four years. He decided to join Big Brothers Big Sisters in June of 2010. As for why he signed up for the program, Rob said, “I had a lot of non-family member mentors while I was growing up. I wanted to try and pay it forward to the youth today."

• High school Big Sister goes to college - stays matched with Little

• Hundreds of Abilene teens have participated in PALS (Peer Assisted Leadership Program) while in high school. Lizzie Folwell, a freshman Business Marketing major at ACU, participated in PALS while in high school and has extended the relationship she formed beyond high school.

  “A Night Under the Stars” with Aaron Watson was truly a night to remember as lightning flashed in the distance and a chorus of coyotes sang along. It was a spectacular West Texas evening.
