2017 Regional Award Winners

BBBS of Greater Houston is proud to announce the winners of the 2017 Regional Awards for Corporate, Partner, and Board Member of the Year.

As a donor-supported volunteer organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters relies on individual volunteers, companies, and community partners to fulfill our mission of serving children facing adversity with strong and enduring professionally supported one-to-one mentoring that changes their lives for the better, forever. Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to thank the following 2017 Partners of the Year:         

Board Member of the Year – Matt Harris
Big Brothers Big Sisters congratulates Matt Harris on being our 2017 Board Member of the Year in Houston. Matt has served on the Board for 11 years and has helped the agency as a leader, visionary, and supporter over his tenure, helping to raise thousands of dollars of support and recruit dozens of mentors to the agency. As a Big Brother himself, Matt has shown his commitment by serving on the Bowl For Kids’ Sake Committee, the Partnership Development Committee and as Co-Chair of the Nominations and Governance Committee. Matt has been warmly characterized as our “food whisperer” and as a founder and Co-Chair for our annual Big Taste event , he has helped to has raised over $500,000 since its inception. This year, through Matt’s vision and leadership, the agency hosted a first time “Big Pop Up” event featuring world class chefs, that raised an additional $72,000 for our mentoring programs. Matt has also put his heart and soul into our new building projects, putting in countless hours as our Board liaison for oversight on the construction of the project. We are proud to honor Matt for his amazing work to support our Houston kids.

Corporate Partner of the Year – Newfield Exploration
As a partner since 2004, Newfield has been an ongoing supporter of our events and programs by contributing more than $400,000 over time to support our mission in Houston. Through volunteer support and engagement and from leadership involvement, including Board service, Newfield has been a strong and mighty force in helping us serve more kids. We salute Newfield Exploration for its outstanding service to our community.

Community Partner of the Year – Lakewood Church
Big Brothers Big Sisters proudly celebrates the outstanding support Lakewood Church and honor them as this year’s Community Partner of the Year. From the top leadership down, the church has embraced our mission and supported our recruitment efforts by allowing Big Brothers Big Sisters to showcase our need for mentors at numerous services. Over 45,000 church attendees heard our message and church leaders supported carrying the message to help sign up over 350 interested volunteers resulting in dozens of new kids being served. Several Lakewood Bigs have attended other agency events and are getting further engaged in our mission. We are grateful for the hours of volunteerism being provided by members of Lakewood Church.
