(HOUSTON, April 9th, 2018) Around 400 guests, participants, and volunteers filled the Audi Central Houston dealership Sunday afternoon for the much-anticipated 6th Annual Big Taste of Houston, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). Co-chairs Divya and Chris Brown, Stacy and John Andell, Leigh McBurnett and Matt Harris led the food and beverage extravaganza which featured over 20 of Houston’s most diverse restaurants, talented chefs, and mixologists showcasing tastes of their finest dishes and cocktails.
As guests circulated tasting stations, sampling little bites of sweet and savory treats and sips of incredible beverages, DJ Mr. Rogers spinned tunes to entertain the crowd and was joined by Xena Aouita, Miss Teen Houston International 2018 and an International Pop Singer, for a special performance. Celebrity judges Bun B, Chester Pitts, DJ Mr. Rogers, Trae tha Truth, Daniela Velasco, and Adam Goldberg helped to determine their favorite, The Capital Grille, which aligned with the People’s Choice and swept the competition.
This year’s award recipients include:
Best Beverage: Le Colonial
Best Dessert: Dawn Foods
Judge’s Choice: The Capital Grille
People’s Choice: The Capital Grille
Best of Big Taste: The Capital Grille
Taylor Robicheaux, who serves in a Big Couple mentoring relationship, shared a moving testimonial about her volunteer experience with the agency reflecting on how her friendship with her Little (mentee) has changed her own life as well as her Little’s. KPRC Channel 2 Anchor Rachel McNeill returned as the event host and presided over the award ceremony. Her first point of business was shamelessly calling out recently married Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO Pierce Bush, fresh back from his honeymoon, inviting him to the stage to show off his wedding ring and declaring he is no longer on the market. Bush, grandson to George H.W. Bush, joined Big Brothers Big Sisters first as a volunteer Big Brother in 2009. He later joined the board then staff in 2014 and soon after met his now wife, Sarahbeth, who also serves as a volunteer mentor and Big Sister.
At the conclusion of the evening, Danny Posey, General Manager of Audi Central Houston, joined Pierce on stage for the much anticipated Audi raffle drawing. Raffle tickets were sold all year long leading up to the event and thanks to Audi Central Houston’s donation of the vehicle at no cost with 100% of proceeds from raffle sales were donated back to the nonprofit. The lucky winner, Mr. Jon Niemczyk, was not in attendance but will be contacted by Big Brothers Big Sisters to share the news of him winning a brand new 2018 Audi A3 or Q3.
Pierce acknowledged, “Big Taste is one of my favorite events on the year. This is our 6th year hosting the Big Taste of Houston and forth year having it at Audi Central Houston. Danny Posey and the entire Audi Central Houston family are heroes in our work, making it possible to raise significant funds to fuel our mission of one-to-one mentoring.”
The silent auction was a huge hit of the evening raising over $38,000, contributing to the overall $170,000 raised at the 6th annual Big Taste of Houston. With the support and generosity of those who attended or sponsored the event, purchased an Audi raffle ticket, or donated a silent auction item, Big Brothers Big Sisters will be able to pair hundreds of the 900 children currently waiting to be matched with a positive and caring volunteer mentor within the Greater Houston community.
