Dear Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star Volunteers and Families,

The leadership at Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star has been monitoring the evolving response and guidance from local and national officials regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We feel it’s important that we update you on our current operational plan, in alignment with state and local public health professionals.

With regard to our various match activities and program events, we are monitoring the situation across our state and will follow the lead of local school officials, corporate partners and state & local public health professionals. At this time, all School and Site Based mentoring programs (such as Beyond School Walls, mentor2.0, Generations and High School Bigs mentoring programs) will proceed as scheduled unless a specific school or site based location suspends such activities. Beyond that, we ask that each individual mentor (Big) use good judgment in their own mentoring activities. If you or your mentee (Little) have traveled to an impacted country or area or if either of you are feeling ill or may have been exposed to this or any other virus, then postpone your mentoring visit until sufficient time has passed. If this is the case, please be sure to communicate the change in plans to all those involved with your match. Otherwise, this topic joins the list of important current event issues that you will want to discuss with your mentee when you next see one another. Your role as a mentor is as important now as ever.

Should conditions in or around our service areas in Texas change and we feel the need to alter our plans, we will immediately notify you.

While our work with youth and school/corporate partners is important to the fulfillment of our mission, nothing is more important to us than the health and well-being of our youth, volunteer mentors, staff and supporters. In that spirit, we ask you to please take care of yourselves and others. Please follow CDC guidelines (attached) for preventing the spread of this virus and seek information from knowledgeable and trusted sources.

Helpful Information from the CDC:

Your first source for information should be the CDC. There is another good page on the website that is on Share the Facts, Stop Fear.
